Don Thompson - Foot to Core

The foot is the link between the body and the ground.

We expect extraordinary things from our feet. They absorb forces on ground contact, adapt to changing surfaces, help us orient in space, and create a stable, efficient base for movement. Yet we often give them surprisingly little attention.

Foot to Core is a three-day professional course that starts with foot function—but doesn’t end at the foot.

We’ll explore the foot’s connections to the heel, pelvis, pelvic floor, and diaphragm, and trace this support system through the body as a whole. We’ll combine modern, evidence-based approaches with hands-on assessment, manual work, and movement.

More than foot training

Foot to Core goes further

It starts at the foot and explores connections that run through the entire body.

01

The foot and heel

We’ll explore foot function, pronation and supination, and approaches to assessing flat feet, rigid feet, plantar fascia problems, and other presentations that don’t always follow textbook patterns. We’ll pay special attention to the heel and its mobility as an important foundation for body support.

02

Strength and support

Intrinsic foot strength is one of the foundations of a well-functioning body. We’ll learn ways to assess and develop it, and explore how strong, adaptable feet contribute to efficient support and movement.

03

From Foot to Core

The foot doesn’t work in isolation. We’ll explore its fascial and neurological connections to the Deep Front Line, the pelvis, pelvic floor, and diaphragm, and their importance for the body’s internal support.

04

The whole body

We'll follow these connections through the pelvis, thorax, shoulder girdle, neck and head, including the role of the 12th rib and the thoracolumbar junction in creating a continuous internal line of support. We'll explore how foot function can also offer a new perspective on issues involving the lower back, shoulders, neck, and temporomandibular joint.
